Micron Technology Inc. willfully infringed a pair of Netlist computer memory patents, a Texas federal jury determined Thursday, saying the chipmaker owes $425 million in damages for one patent and $20 million for the other.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board decided Monday that two Netlist computer memory patents are invalid, in a win for Samsung, which was previously found to infringe the patents in a $303 million Texas verdict, and Micron, whose infringement trial was postponed to await the rulings.

U.S. District Judge Rodney Gilstrap changed his mind Saturday about allowing Netlist's infringement trial against Micron to proceed before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board's review of two patents-in-suit concludes in April, noting that on further consideration, doing so would pose a risk of inefficiently spending limited judicial resources.

Micron cannot postpone Netlist's infringement suit against it from going to trial after Chief U.S. District Judge Rodney Gilstrap adopted a magistrate judge's recommendation to deny Micron's motion to stay pending the Patent Trial and Appeal Board's review of two of the patents-in-suit following findings that others are invalid.

The Federal Circuit refused Friday to halt an Eastern District of Texas trial set for Jan. 19 in which the Patent Trial and Appeal Board has found two of the Netlist patents involved to be invalid, rejecting defendant Micron's argument that holding the trial would be "unprecedented."
