Verizon asked a federal judge on Friday to require arbitration in a putative class action lawsuit over whether the company was engaging in deceptive advertising practices, claiming that its customers agreed to an arbitration clause when purchasing cellphones and accepting Verizon's customer agreement.

In an amended complaint, a group of Verizon customers claimed Tuesday that the phone company engaged in a deceptive bait-and-switch scheme that charged customers higher rates for post-paid service plans.
