Two Michigan trucking companies were each fined $500,000 on Tuesday after pleading guilty to disabling emissions control systems in semitrucks, while four individuals involved in the scheme, including the companies' owners, received fines up to $10,000.

Federal prosecutors have charged three Michigan companies with conspiring to disable emissions controls on semitrucks, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan Mark Totten said Wednesday.
