A group of music publishers has asked a Tennessee federal judge to reject an artificial intelligence company's bid to dismiss a copyright complaint for lack of jurisdiction in the state, saying Anthropic's "claims that it is subject to jurisdiction only in its Silicon Valley backyard" are wrong.

Amazon.com-backed Anthropic has asked a Tennessee federal judge to toss — or alternatively, transfer to California — music publishers' allegations that the artificial-intelligence developer has ripped off their song copyrights, arguing that the complaint is a "negotiating tactic disguised as a federal complaint," and the Volunteer State lacks authority over the dispute.

Music Publishers Want Their Songs Cut From AI Training
Music publishers who filed a copyright suit against artificial intelligence developer Anthropic PBC have urged a federal judge to order the company to stop using songwriters' compositions to train its large-language models, saying that if the court waits until the litigation concludes, "the damage will be done."
