EU Proposal Aims To Balance Antitrust Powers, Independence

Law360 (March 9, 2018, 9:14 PM EST) -- EU lawmakers have tweaked a proposal to give member nations' antitrust agencies greater investigative and enforcement power with changes meant to make those watchdogs more independent and come to decisions based solely on competition concerns.

Thursday's proposal, more than a year in the making, would urge the European Parliament to give individual nations’ competition authorities greater ability to go after potential competition violations, ranging from digging into corporate records and to making sure fines and other remedies stick.
