FTC Challenges $2.2B Tronox-Cristal Titanium Dioxide Merger

Law360, New York (December 5, 2017, 5:31 PM EST) -- The Federal Trade Commission sued Tuesday to keep Tronox Ltd. from going ahead with its $2.2 billion acquisition of chemical mining and processing company Cristal, warning that the combination of the two biggest producers of a white pigment called titanium dioxide would harm competition.

The FTC said the proposed combination between Saudi Arabian Cristal and Connecticut-based Tronox would significantly limit competition in North America.
