Faruqi, Monteverde Partially Liable In Sex Assault Case
By Max Stendahl (February 5, 2015, 2:26 PM EST) -- A New York federal jury on Thursday found Faruqi & Faruqi LLP and partner Juan Monteverde partially liable for creating a hostile work environment in a closely watched sexual assault case that has cast a harsh spotlight on the securities boutique.
An eight-member jury found Faruqi and Monteverde liable on former associate Alexandra Marchuk's hostile work environment claims under New York City law, but rejected similar claims under federal and state law. The jury awarded Marchuk $140,000 in damages, representing $90,000 in lost compensation, $45,000 in punitive damages against Monteverde, and $5,000 in punitive damages against the firm.
