Dominion Virginia's $1.6M Bid Tops Offshore Wind Lease Sale

Law360, New York (September 4, 2013, 5:43 PM EDT) -- Dominion Virginia Power emerged victorious in the nation’s second competitive wind energy auction Wednesday with a $1.6 million bid for 112,800 acres in offshore Virginia that federal officials estimate will generate some 2,000 megawatts of energy — enough to power 700,000 homes.

The power company beat out one other bidder, Apex Virginia Offshore Wind LLC, to secure its provisional victory, U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Director Tommy Beaudreau said Wednesday in a conference call with reporters.
