House Greenlights Energy Bill To Expand Oil Drilling

Law360, New York (February 17, 2012, 7:49 PM EST) -- The U.S. House of Representatives passed an energy bill Thursday evening that includes several Republican-backed energy proposals, including opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, removing restrictions on offshore oil drilling and jump-starting TransCanada Corp.'s Keystone XL oil sands pipeline.

By a party-line vote of 237-187, the House passed H.R. 3408, also known as the Protecting Investment in Oil Shale the Next Generation of Environmental, Energy and Resource Security Act, or PIONEERS Act. While 21 Democrats supported the bill, 21 Republicans voted against it....
