Safety Standard Is Key To Finding Chemical Law Compromise

Law360, New York (July 26, 2012, 8:16 PM EDT) -- With their proposal to update the 36-year-old Toxic Substances Control Act heading to the U.S. Senate floor, Democrats will need to find a chemical safety standard acceptable to Republicans and industry groups in order to win the bill's passage, experts say.

Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., has pushed for reform of the nation's chemical regulations since 2005. His latest attempt to amend TSCA — S. 847, the Safe Chemicals Act — has progressed further than a 2010 version of the bill, having advanced out of committee Wednesday....
