Miami Mayor Asks Legislators To Oppose FPL-Backed Bills

Law360, Miami (March 17, 2017, 9:19 PM EDT) -- Miami's mayor urged Florida legislators Thursday to vote against two Florida Power & Light-backed bills that would allow utilities to build transmission lines despite local governments' objections and would overturn an appeals court ruling nixing gubernatorial approvals for FPL's plans in South Florida.

In a letter sent to the state's legislators, Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado said S.B. 1048 and H.B. 1055 would give the Florida Public Service Commission exclusive authority to order utilities to bury transmission lines.
