Order on Motion for Extension of Time
ORDER Granting ECF No. 57, Parties' Joint Motion for Extension of Time to Extend All Discovery and Case Management Deadlines. All discovery, including depositions, shall be completed on or before February 1, 2027, and all interim discovery deadlines hereby are incorporated by reference. All interim discovery deadlines may be amended by agreement of the parties without the court's approval provided those amendments do not delay the deadline for completion of all discovery. Any motions for summary judgment shall be filed on or before April 30, 2027. The parties' joint trial memorandum shall be filed on or before May 7, 2027, if no dispositive motions are filed, or within the period set by the court upon its disposition of any dispositive motions that are filed. The court thereafter will set a trial start date. Separately, the parties are reminded that they remain free to consent to the jurisdiction of a United States Magistrate Judge who could preside over this case in its entirety, "including presiding over a jury or non-jury trial." See ECF No. 18. In this case, it appears that the "assigned United States Magistrate Judge," id., upon transfer of this matter from the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York (June 9, 2025) is Judge Thomas O. Farrish, so Judge Farrish would preside over this case if the parties were to consent to USMJ jurisdiction. Additionally, the court informs the parties that each of the United States Magistrate Judges within the District of Connecticut has expressed a genuine interest in presiding over trials, and one of them recently remarked that they are often able to try civil cases sooner than would a district judge, partly because United States Magistrate Judges do not incur the risk of a felony criminal trial (subject to the provisions of the Speedy Trial Act) delaying the start of a civil trial. Beyond that, their knowledge, experience, and diligent case management can result in the fair and timely resolution of cases long before trial. Absent such USMJ consent, though, all dispositive motions shall remain under the review of the undersigned. It is so ordered. Signed by Judge Omar A. Williams on 8/21/2026. (KM)
