Enviros Sue Fla. Chicken Plant Over Alleged River Pollution
Law360, New York (March 9, 2017, 7:20 PM EST) -- A Florida environmental group slapped a chicken slaughtering plant on Thursday with a citizen enforcement suit in federal court for allegedly polluting the Suwannee River with an excessive level of wastewater discharged from the company's processing operations.
Environment Florida sued Pilgrim's Pride Corp., headquartered in Greeley, Colorado, for violations of the federal Clean Water Act, alleging the plant in the Florida town of Live Oak sends more polluted wastewater into the river than it is permitted to discharge when cutting up and packaging chickens for retail sale.
