Modifying CMS Medicare And Medicaid Incentive Programs

Law360, New York (July 2, 2014, 11:04 AM EDT) -- On May 23, 2014, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology issued a proposed rule that would modify the meaningful use stage timeline of the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Records Incentive Programs. The proposed rule would also change the requirements for reporting clinical quality measures for 2014 and revise the definition of "certified electronic health record technology." The proposed rule modifies the EHR Incentive Program Stage 2 final rule and 2014 CEHRT Edition final rule issued by CMS and ONC in 2012. These proposed changes have come fairly late in the program year, but respond to significant implementation issues that the EHR vendor and provider communities have encountered in meeting the 2014 meaningful use requirements....
