By Patricia Markus (January 9, 2018, 11:42 AM EST) -- The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has issued a final rule updating the Confidentiality of Substance Use Disorder Records, 42 CFR Part 2 (part 2), to expand the circumstances under which federally assisted substance use disorder (SUD) treatment providers may use and disclose to their third-party contractors individually identifiable information of patients who are receiving SUD treatment (SUD information).[1] Published in the Federal Register on Jan. 3, 2018, the rule becomes effective on Feb. 2, with the exception of the contracting requirements of new Section 2.33(c), compliance with which is required on or before Feb. 2, 2020.[2]...
