NM Lawmakers Set Spaceflight Liability Bill For Blastoff

Law360, New York (January 23, 2013, 7:18 PM EST) -- New legislation in New Mexico would limit the civil liability of the makers and suppliers of parts used in commercial spaceflight and require the companies to purchase liability insurance, lawmakers said Tuesday.

New Mexico is home to Spaceport America, a $209 million project aiming to be the world's first commercial flight center. Virgin Galactic LLC, a unit of the travel behemoth Virgin Group Ltd. that builds commercial spaceships, is planning to operate flights from the so-called spaceport.
