National Union Off Hook For $350M UnitedHealth Settlement

Law360, Los Angeles (April 25, 2013, 9:33 PM EDT) -- A clerical error let National Union Fire Insurance Co. of Pittsburgh, Pa., off the hook on Thursday in UnitedHealth Group Inc.'s bid for coverage of its $350 million settlement with doctors and health plan subscribers that alleged it hadn't reimbursed their health claims.

Because UnitedHealth hadn't mailed its claim to National Union's claims department in New York, as stipulated by the terms of its policy, the insurer will likely be dismissed from the seven-year-old dispute, in which it could have been liable for $20 million, sources said...
