US Holds Firm On Ag Demands In Looming EU Trade Talks

Law360 (January 11, 2019, 8:00 PM EST) -- The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative declared Friday that it would look to pry open the European Union’s tightly protected agricultural market in forthcoming bilateral trade talks despite the EU’s repeated insistence that agriculture will not be included in any trade deal.

U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer’s office included agricultural market access on the list of negotiating objectives the Trump administration will pursue when it begins formal trade negotiations with the EU, taking a hard line on one of Brussels’ most sensitive policy areas.
