Law360, New York (March 17, 2017, 1:42 PM EDT) -- The Chinese government Thursday looked to assuage U.S. concerns about the potential anti-competitive effects of its state-owned business titans, stressing that those companies operate independent of government influence whenever possible.

China’s use of state trading enterprises, STEs, to nudge out foreign competitors has been a thorn in the side of foreign companies for years, but Beijing’s replies to questions posed by the U.S. at the World Trade Organization suggested that those fears were overblown.
