EU Softens WTO Proposal To Curb Fisheries Subsidies

Law360, New York (July 13, 2017, 1:36 PM EDT) -- The European Union on Thursday offered a revision to its proposal for a World Trade Organization agreement that will cut down global fisheries subsidies, offering a transitional period during which even companies in developed economies may still receive government support.

Brussels came forward with its new proposal at a meeting of the WTO’s Negotiating Group on Rules, which is in the midst of a mad dash to pull together a modest package of agreements in time for the WTO’s ministerial conference in Geneva.
