'Pyrat' Rum Can't Block 'Pirate Piss' Craft Beer Trademark

Law360 (June 12, 2018, 4:29 PM EDT) -- Patron Spirits International AG, the distiller behind “Pyrat” rum, has lost a bid to block a Pennsylvania craft brewer from registering its “Pirate Piss” beer brand as a trademark.

The Trademark Trial and Appeal Board ruled Friday that consumers were unlikely to confuse the two alcohol brands, meaning Conyngham Brewing Co. is allowed to register its swashbuckling beer name as a trademark.
