Safeway Unit Swiped Rivals' Gift Card Patent: Jury

Law360, New York (February 27, 2012, 4:54 PM EST) -- A Wisconsin federal jury on Friday found that a gift card management subsidiary of grocery giant Safeway Inc. infringed a patent used in the computerized processing of gift cards held by rivals Interactive Communications International Inc. and its E2Interactive Inc. affiliate.

The jury ruled that prepaid products provider Blackhawk Network Inc. had operated gift card distribution centers selling stored-value cards that infringed on InComm and E2's patent.
