Ex-USPTO Head Urges Resistance To Patent Troll Bills
By Ryan Davis (April 24, 2014, 8:19 PM EDT) -- The former director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office called on current U.S. patent officials Thursday to resist the push for legislation aimed at cracking down on so-called patent trolls, which he said would undermine patent rights.
David Kappos, now a partner at Cravath Swaine & Moore LLP, said at Fordham Law School's Intellectual Property Law and Policy Conference that proponents of the bills, the Senate version of which may be voted on next week, are making appeals "largely based on rhetoric and self-interest" rather than analysis and facts about the patent litigation.
