In 2012, the Egyptian National Competitive Council released its Eighth Egyptian Competitiveness Report, ranking Egypt 114th of 139 countries in terms of brain drain.[1] In 2010, even before the Egyptian Revolution of 2011, Daily News Egypt cited an International Labor Organization (ILO) report by economist Ahmed Ghoneim stating that, "Egypt is one of the top emigrating countries, ranking number 12 in the world in terms of the number of emigrants in 2005."[2] The article also quotes Luca Azzoni, a senior skills and employability specialist at the ILO, who said, "The labor market environment in Egypt does not fulfill people's expectations and is not conductive to their aspirations for a better life, so highly skilled workers leave to find this in other countries."[3] A 2013 poll from the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) indicated that over 61 percent of Egyptian youth were willing to emigrate because of unemployment, Daily News Egypt reported.[4]...
