Baker Donelson Pauses Timber Scam Suit Amid Criminal Case

By Kevin Penton (July 1, 2021, 2:02 PM EDT) -- A Mississippi federal judge has agreed to pause civil litigation against Baker Donelson over its alleged role in a timber industry Ponzi scheme while criminal charges against a Baker Donelson partner and former firm lobbyist are resolved.

U.S. Magistrate Judge F. Keith Ball on Wednesday entered a brief text order that paused all proceedings in the case brought by a court-appointed receiver against Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz PC so the related criminal case against partner Jon Seawright and lobbyist Brent Alexander — who are also defendants in the civil case — could proceed first.
