Wis. Lawmakers Approve Contingency Fee Atty Reform Bill

Law360, New York (October 10, 2013, 4:20 PM EDT) -- The Wisconsin Senate approved a bill on Tuesday that would require the governor to justify the state's hiring of private attorneys on a contingency fee basis and would limit the fees the attorneys could recover.

Under Assembly Bill 27/Senate Bill 19, which has been sent to Gov. Scott Walker for signature, Wisconsin state agencies cannot contract with private firms or attorneys unless the governor determines in writing that the hiring is cost-effective and serves the public interest.
