Female Associate Representation Falls For 4th Year: Survey

Law360, New York (December 12, 2013, 2:43 PM EST) -- Women for the fourth straight year occupied a shrinking portion of firm associate ranks in 2013 as minorities made modest but steady gains, according to an industry report released Tuesday, in what survey takers called a "historic shift" for the legal industry.

The latest demographic survey from the National Association for Legal Career Professionals found minority associates have made up more ground in recent years than they lost in the wake of the financial crisis and widespread layoffs in the legal industry.

But the ranks of women associates have fared poorly since 2009, making another small decline this year to 44.79...
