By Matthew Guarnaccia (April 5, 2017, 11:01 PM EDT) -- After an impressive number of law firm mergers last year, the first three months of 2017 saw even more action, nearly matching a first-quarter record for U.S. firm tie-ups with a total of 28.
According to legal consultant Altman Weil Inc.'s MergerLine tally, which tracks news reports of law firm mergers, this year's first-quarter total is eclipsed over the same time frame only by 2015, which had 29 deals and ultimately ended as the biggest year ever for law firm mergers at 91 total.
So far, 2017 has seen five cross-border combinations, as well as the continued consolidation of small U.S. firms...
