FDA Panel Calls For More Warnings On Metal Hip Implants

Law360, New York (June 28, 2012, 8:33 PM EDT) -- A U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisory panel recommended Thursday that the labeling for metal-on-metal hip implants, the target of multiple recalls and massive litigation, include warnings for tumor-like growths and elevated metal ion levels in the bloodstream.

The FDA convened a group of orthopedic surgeons, medical experts, industry representatives and patient advocates for a two-day meeting to review the available safety data for the devices.
