By Martha Charepoo (October 9, 2018, 3:34 PM EDT) -- On Aug. 28, 2018, with the passage of Missouri Senate Bill 627, Missouri criminalized the use of the word "meat" on labels of food products that do not come from an animal, and became the first state to do so. The bill states that "[n]o person advertising, offering the sale or selling all or part of a carcass or food plan shall engage in any misleading or deceptive practices, including, but not limited to ... misrepresenting a product as meat that is not derived from harvested production livestock or poultry."...
