FDA Pushes For Greater Clinical Trial Patient Diversity

Hamburg said on Tuesday that the agency will launch an action plan promoting greater diversity in clinical trial patient populations this summer, claiming there are significant gaps in drug and medical device efficacy data.

As the FDA sought stakeholder input on the clinical diversity issue during a public meeting Tuesday, Hamburg assured patient advocates, pharmaceutical companies and universities that the agency is focusing on creating a real solution to researchers' seeming inability to recruit women, African Americans, Latinos and other racial groups to participate in clinical trials.
