Takeda Hit With $1.3M In Punitive Damages In Pa. Actos Case
By Matt Fair (February 13, 2015, 2:51 PM EST) -- A Philadelphia jury slapped Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. with $1.3 million in punitive damages on Friday after concluding that the company had acted with reckless indifference for the health of a retired Pennsylvania teacher who claimed the diabetes drug Actos had caused him to develop bladder cancer.
The $1,334,636 million in punitive damages comes on top of a $2.3 million award the jury handed down on Thursday after agreeing that Takeda had failed to provide adequate warnings about the drug's association with bladder cancer and that the medication had been a significant cause of his condition.
