Medicaid Expansion A Bright Spot In ACA's Rocky Start

Law360, New York (October 18, 2013, 3:45 PM EDT) -- Nearly three weeks after their debut, the Affordable Care Act's health insurance marketplaces were still wrestling Friday with technical snags that have hamstringed shoppers, but Medicaid expansions crucial to hospital bottom lines were having more luck, with tens of thousands of people signing up in some states.

News of strong progress on Medicaid emerged from several states, notably Oregon, where state officials have signed up 56,000 people, reducing the state’s uninsured population by 10 percent almost overnight.
