EPA Carbon Regs Put Pressure On Fla. To Embrace Renewables

Law360, Miami (June 6, 2014, 9:52 PM EDT) -- New proposed federal regulations requiring Florida to cut carbon emissions 38 percent by 2030 could force further development of nuclear and solar capabilities in a natural gas-dependent state that so far has had little incentive to embrace renewable energy sources, experts say.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency earlier this week issued a 645-page proposal calling for cuts of about 30 percent nationwide in carbon dioxide emissions for the first time and allowing states several options for achieving the reductions mandated by the proposal.
