Judge Orders Name Change For Barton Brands Bourbon

By Marius Meland (April 24, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A U.S. District Court Judge in Kentucky has ordered Barton Brands Ltd. to change the name of its Ridgewood Reserve 1792 bourbon, handing a victory to Brown-Forman Corp. in its trademark lawsuit against the rival liquor producer.

Judge Jennifer Coffman also ordered Barton to immediately have retailers remove any Ridgewood Reserve 1792 stocked after the lawsuit was filed last October.

Coffman said Barton can sell any remaining inventory stocked before the lawsuit was filed, but only in Kentucky. Barton launched Ridgewood Reserve in other states after the suit was filed. Ridgewood was being sold in four states, attorneys for Barton said...
