Former Haiti Teleco Director Gets 1 Year For Bribery Scheme

Law360, New York (July 10, 2012, 6:33 PM EDT) -- The former director general of a Haitian telecommunications company who pled guilty to participating in a scheme by U.S. telephone companies including Terra Telecommunications Corp. to obtain business advantages in Haiti was sentenced to one year in prison and nearly $1 million in forfeiture on Friday in Florida federal court.

U.S. District Judge Jose E. Martinez sentenced Patrick Joseph, a former executive at state-owned Telecommunications D'Haiti SAM, or Haiti Teleco, to one year and a day in prison, one year of supervised release and about $956,000...
