Companies Battle Over Bone Cleaning Technology

Law360, New York (September 12, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Two companies that specialize in preparing donated tissue, such as bones, ligaments and tendons, for transplant are squaring off in federal court in New Jersey over a patent that lays out a novel method for cleansing and sterilizing bones.

The suit, filed Monday on behalf of Osteotech Inc., accuses Regeneration Technologies Inc. of infringing U.S. Patent No. 5,333,626, entitled “Preparation of Bone For Transplant.”

Regeneration Technologies’ “BioCleanse” product encroaches on the ‘626 patent, which was issued on Aug. 2, 1994, the plaintiff contends.
