Oppenheimer Settles Sex Discrimination Suit

Law360, New York (September 13, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Investment boutique Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. has settled a gender bias lawsuit for $85,500, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission revealed Tuesday.

As part of the settlement, Oppenheimer, previously known as Fahnestock & Co. Inc., will set up a $75,000 scholarship fund for the advancement of women in the financial services industry. The rest of the money will go to Jaime Sanders, who was allegedly denied a job interview for a broker trainee position in 2003 because of her sex.
