Stanford Exec Charged With Obstructing SEC Suit

Law360, New York (May 12, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal grand jury has charged Stanford Financial Group Chief Investment Officer Laura Pendergest-Holt with obstruction of justice in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s ongoing investigation into the firm’s alleged $8 billion Ponzi scheme, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday.

The jury in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas returned a two-count indictment charging Pendergest-Holt with conspiring to obstruct the investigation by the SEC in addition to a substantive count of obstructing the SEC proceeding.
