Adidas Wins 3-Stripe Trademark Ruling In EU Court

Law360 (March 1, 2018, 5:22 PM EST) -- A European Union court ruled Thursday that Adidas could block a Belgian footwear company from registering two parallel stripes on shoes as an EU trademark, saying the design was confusingly similar to the German giant’s oft-asserted “three-stripe mark.”

Affirming rulings by the bloc’s trademark office, the EU’s General Court said the two-stripe mark, sought by a company called Shoe Branding Europe, “would take unfair advantage of the repute of Adidas’ mark.”
