Conditional Cert. Granted In Suit V. Health System

Law360 (May 15, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has conditionally certified a class of potentially tens of thousands of current and former employees of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in a collection action challenging the health system's meal break policy.

Magistrate Judge Cathy Bissoon of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania on Thursday granted the stage one certification, which means the plaintiffs will be able to notify all current and former nonexempt employees from the past three years that they can opt in to the litigation....
