2 Pa. Doctors Arrested For Excessive Opioid Prescriptions

Law360 (March 9, 2018, 3:03 PM EST) -- Pennsylvania prosecutors on Thursday said they had arrested a psychiatrist and a pediatrician in a pair of cases over the allegedly excessive and abusive prescriptions of tens of thousands of opioid painkillers and other medications.

Bruce Lief, 77, a psychiatrist with a Philadelphia-based practice, was charged for prescribing close to 25,000 Oxycodone, OxyContin and methadone pills to patients, many of whom prosecutors say he never actually examined, as part of a self-styled pain management practice he said he ran on the side.
