High Court Denies Cert In Steinbeck Copyright Suit

Law360 (May 18, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear an appeal filed by the son and granddaughter of John Steinbeck after they lost an attempt in August to gain control of the copyright for the author's early works.

The high court on Monday denied a petition for writ of certiorari filed by Thomas Steinbeck and Blake Smyle, who had sought to undo an appellate court decision holding that the copyright for certain Steinbeck works belongs to the estate of Elaine Steinbeck, the author's third wife.
