Obama Seeks To Bump Up Fuel Economy Deadline

Law360 (May 18, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- President Obama is set to unveil new auto emissions and efficiency standards that will reportedly require automakers to boost the average fuel efficiency of cars sold in the United States to 35 miles per gallon by 2016, four years earlier than currently required by a 2007 federal law.

The revised standards were slated to be revealed Tuesday, according to a White House press briefing by spokesperson Robert Gibbs, who said he wouldn't reveal details of the new rules until an official announcement had been made....
