BLM Defends Inspection Of Tribal-Linked Drilling Wells

Law360 (April 16, 2018, 3:38 PM EDT) -- The Bureau of Land Management had authority to inspect oil and gas wells on privately owned lands because of their connection with the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, the federal government told the Tenth Circuit on Friday, asking it to affirm a lower court's decision in its favor.

The owners of a tract of land in Colorado with oil must allow inspectors on the land because of a "communitization agreement" that connects it with a separate oil and gas lease owned by the tribe, the government said....
