NY Cautions Banks, Insurers About Doing Business With NRA

By Jon Hill (April 19, 2018, 8:43 PM EDT) -- New York's top banking agency on Thursday urged state-chartered banks and insurers operating in the state to think twice about doing business with the National Rifle Association and other gun rights advocacy groups in the wake of recent deadly incidents of gun violence like the Parkland, Florida, school shooting.

In letters sent Thursday, the New York State Department of Financial Services cautioned about the reputational risks that may come from dealing with the NRA or "similar gun promotion organizations" and encouraged banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions it regulates to review their relationships with these groups.
