Paint Co. Slapped Over Bad Faith In Mediation

Law360, New York (June 1, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A paint manufacturer has been sanctioned by a judge who found that the company wasted the court's time with an alleged bad-faith effort at mediation in an asbestos dispute.

Scranton, Pa.-based United Gilsonite Laboratories took a case to trial as part of its settlement strategy and strained an already taxed court, said Judge Mary Johnston of the Superior Court of the State of Delaware in and for New Castle County, in a ruling issued Wednesday. The judge fined UGL about $10,000.
