P&G, AstraZeneca Sued Over Prilosec OTC Risks

Law360, New York (June 2, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Procter & Gamble Co. and AstraZeneca PLC have been hit with a putative class action alleging that they failed to warn consumers that their over-the-counter heartburn treatment Prilosec OTC can increase the chances of contracting food poisoning.

Thomas Mitchell, who began taking Prilosec OTC in 2008, filed a lawsuit Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, asserting that the drugmakers intentionally hid a side effect increasing the risk of food-borne illness.
