EPA Cites BP's Ind. Refinery For CAA Breaches

Law360, New York (June 2, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- BP Products North America Inc. has been cited by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for alleged air pollution at its petroleum refinery in Whiting, Ind.

The company, a unit of oil giant BP PLC, failed to manage and treat cancer-causing benzene waste from the refinery from 2003 to 2008, the EPA said Tuesday.

The agency said the facility's 2008 report revealed that benzene waste was almost 16 times the volume permissible by national emissions standards for hazardous air pollutants.
