California Blue Cross Alters Rescission Policies

Law360, New York (September 20, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Spurred by a lawsuits and concerns voiced by state health care regulators, Blue Cross of California has decided to amend its policies on rescinding health insurance.

Blue Cross of California hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing, but plans to clarify the application process to nip future rescissions—and potential lawsuits—in the bud.

"The vast majority of rescissions to date are unquestionably proper under any criteria," said Dave Helwig, president and chief executive officer of Blue Cross. "But we are taking these major steps to minimize the possibility of errors."...
